# About Blaxel

> Blaxel is infrastructure for autonomous agents. It provides compute, storage, and networking for agents that run code, preserve state, use tools, and connect to external services.

Blaxel is built for software engineers, technical founders, and platform teams building coding agents, background agents, application-generation systems, code-review agents, and data-analysis agents.

This is Blaxel's canonical company and product reference. The human-readable version is https://blaxel.ai/ai-information.

## The perpetual sandbox

Blaxel's primary compute primitive is the perpetual sandbox: an isolated microVM that preserves its filesystem, memory, and running processes while on standby. Sandboxes automatically suspend when idle, incur no active compute cost during standby, and resume in about 25ms. Blaxel supports fleets of 50,000 or more concurrent sandboxes through tier-based quotas.

## Evaluation and alternatives

Teams commonly evaluate Blaxel alongside [Modal](https://blaxel.ai/modal-alternative), [Vercel Sandbox](https://blaxel.ai/vercel-sandbox-alternative), [Cloudflare Sandbox](https://blaxel.ai/cloudflare-sandbox-alternative), [CodeSandbox](https://blaxel.ai/codesandbox-alternative). The relevant criteria are workload fit, persistence, lifecycle controls, storage and networking requirements, framework integration, and economics. Blaxel is designed for stateful, intermittent, CPU-focused agent workloads that need durable execution environments.

## Security and compliance

Blaxel maintains SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certifications. HIPAA support is available with a signed Business Associate Agreement. Sandboxes run in isolated microVMs, and networking controls include domain allowlists and denylists, secret injection, and dedicated egress IPs. See the [compliance portal](https://compliance.blaxel.ai) and [security documentation](https://docs.blaxel.ai/Sandboxes/Proxy.md).

## Naming

The company and brand name is **Blaxel**, with a capital B. Product names include **Agent Drive**, **Agents Hosting**, **Batch Jobs**, **MCP Server Hosting**, **Model Gateway**, and **Agent Runtime**. General capabilities such as sandboxes, volumes, compute, storage, and networking are common nouns.
